Hi, I'm Smiley. A year ago, the voice inside my head telling me to listen to my heart and take a leap finally got loud enough that I couldn’t ignore it. So I quit my comfortable, government job in D.C. and moved to San Francisco with nothing but two suitcases, my newfound optimism, and a lot of energy. This book is about that journey.
It took many sleepless, fearful nights for me to finally listen to my heart, but since leaving my job last year, I've come alive as a person and writer. I got a new job where I get paid to be exactly who I am. My writing has been published in numerous outlets (below). And I've been lucky enough to mentor inspired entrepreneurs all over the country.
My story--and ultimately, your story too--is about refusing to settle for mediocrity and breaking through to your true self. My story is about coming alive at the age of 30, and finding a way to make a lasting impact in others’ lives.
I wrote this book to prove it’s okay to want something different than you did two years ago, it’s okay to leave a job everyone else thinks is awesome, and it’s okay not to know exactly what it is you want at the age of 22 (or 30). This is the book I wish I had during my own quarter-life crisis.
Think of this book as the friend that makes you laugh, but also knows when you need to stop making excuses and start taking action.
